If you know me at all, you know I love learning activities for preschoolers! I love planning everything out, personalizing as much as I can, taking pictures and watching them grow. I love it all! I’m excited to share today’s activity with everyone, and I’m offering my very first FREE printables!
The next 2 weeks we’ll be focusing on bugs, and I couldn’t be more excited! We’re a family of curious, mud-loving boys, (see this post written by my SIL for proof) so I thought focusing on bugs would be a great excuse to plan some fun, dirt-digging activities. Today, however, we stayed indoors for our introduction to the different bugs we might get to see on our upcoming bug hunt.
I created a worksheet for Jack and I to fill out together, and he loved it! It took a couple of tries to get him interested because his little brother was practically on top of him, curious about what we were doing. Thank goodness I made these flashcards for the little ones! I bought the bug clipart from PinkPueblo on Etsy, and used Canva to create the flashcards and worksheets!
Max loved showing his little nephew the different bugs!
Marshall was mostly interested in eating them.
Once we got the babies interested in the flashcards, Jackson and I were able to really focus on the worksheet. We would figure out what bug we’re looking at and sound it out together until we decided what letter each bug should start with. Jack was feeling shy this morning, so he preferred to trace over the letters after I wrote them in. He did such a great job!
I even made a worksheet for tracing or coloring in his name using the same bugs! We talked about each letter in his name, and what bugs started with the same letter. He was proud when he discovered that there’s an “a” in his name, and that’s what the word “ant” starts with!
I recommend laminating your flashcards before giving them to your baby or toddler. Paper doesn’t last long in the hands of little ones! Click here to see the laminator that I own and love.
**FREE BONUS WORKSHEET: If you subscribe to my newsletter and email me your child’s first name along with which bugs you’d like added, I will send you a personalized version of the Name Trace Worksheet!**
This little guy will be making an appearance on the blog very soon. Keep an eye out for this adorable fine motor skills activity later in the week!
